Family Coaching for IEPs

Navigating the special education process can feel overwhelming. Between assessments, eligibility reports, goals, accommodations, and legal terminology, many families find themselves trying to make important decisions while also learning an entirely new language.

For the past 15 years, I have worked as a Resource Specialist, partnering with families and helping them understand the often-complex world of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Time and again, I have met parents who left meetings feeling confused, uncertain about what questions to ask, or unsure how to effectively advocate for their child.

I believe that parents know their child best. When families and school teams work together with shared understanding and clear communication, children are better supported and more likely to thrive.

As part of my IEP coaching services, I can support families by:

  • Reviewing cognitive, academic, and educational assessment reports
  • Explaining evaluation results in clear, understandable language
  • Helping families prepare for upcoming IEP meetings
  • Identifying questions to ask and areas to explore with the school team
  • Reviewing existing IEP goals, accommodations, and services
  • Offering suggestions for appropriate supports and accommodations
  • Discussing strategies for ongoing advocacy and collaboration with school teams

My experience in both general and special education allows me to understand the legal framework of special education while also recognizing the practical realities of the classroom. I can help families better understand why certain services or accommodations may be recommended, as well as the rationale schools may provide when requests are denied.

My goal is not to replace the school team, but to help families feel informed, empowered, and confident as they participate in decisions that affect their child’s education. Together, we can work toward creating a learning environment where your child feels supported, understood, and able to reach their full potential.

If you would like guidance before an IEP meeting, support in understanding an assessment report, or help reviewing an existing plan, I invite you to schedule a complimentary consultation call.
